De PlayStation 5 is ondertussen al bijna 3 maanden op de markt, maar het is nog steeds erg moeilijk om aan de nieuwe console te komen. Sony PlayStation CFO Hiroki Totoki heeft aan ARSTechnica laten weten waar dat precies aan ligt.

Het Japanse bedrijf wil op zijn minst net zo snel nieuwe PlayStation 5-consoles aan winkels leveren als dat ze destijds deden met de PlayStation 4. Het probleem is alleen dat er tekorten aan componenten zijn. Vooral halfgeleiders zijn moeilijk om te bemachtigen, wat ook een probleem is voor pc-eigenaren die willen upgraden.

Ook al is het dus moeilijk om genoeg consoles te produceren, Sony wil er in ieder geval alles aan doen om aan de grote vraag te voldoen. De kans is echter groot dat de situatie zoals die nu is nog lang blijft aanhouden, dat liet AMD laatst al doorschemeren.

“It is difficult for us to increase production of the PS5 amid the shortage of semiconductors and other components, We have not been able to fully meet the high level of demand from customers [but] we continue to do everything in our power to ship as many units as possible to customers who are waiting for a PS5.”
