In 1987 verscheen Double Dragon in de arcadehallen en het spel was een regelrechte hit. De game kwam ook naar consoles en er werden vervolgen gemaakt. Sinds 2003 worden er echter vooral remakes van eerdere delen uitgebracht en er is nu weer een nieuwe game onderweg: Double Dragon Revive.
Arc System Works, bekend van de Guilty Gear-reeks, zal verantwoordelijk zijn voor het uitgeven van Double Dragon Revive en Yuke’s is de ontwikkelaar. De game zal in 2025 verschijnen voor de PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S en pc.
